Understanding Meta Tags: definition, meta tag analysis of a webpage of choice and description of each meta tag
What are meta tags?
Metadata from meta tags helps search engines like Google understand more details about a webpage. They can use this data to display snippets in search results, determine rankings, and occasionally ignore meta tags.
The <title> and <description> elements are two examples of meta tags.

Although description and keywords are the two most frequently used meta tags, there are some other examples as well.
Meta content type - This tag must appear on every page in order to specify the character set for that page. If this is omitted, the page's browser rendering may suffer.
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
Title - Although the title tag doesn't begin with "meta," it is in the header and contains data that is crucial to SEO. Every page would need to have a special title tag that describes it.
Viewport - In today's world of mobile devices, the viewpoint needs to be specified. If not, there's a chance that the mobile experience will be subpar.
<meta name=viewport content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
Meta description - The meta description tag serves a single purpose: it describes the page to searchers as they browse the SERPs. This tag has no bearing on ranking, but it is extremely important.
